IRT Cata: No problem. As for Intenet Explorer, yes, 123mania is more hijacking shitware, try here for removal, but if it keeps reappearing, chances are that it comes from a website you have to use IE for. 123mania compromises your security by letting more shitware come in, some of which can be very dangerous, so you should try to get rid of it at all costs.

Also try Ad-aware and Spybot, as a general rule have both installed and update their definitions and run a full check with each every week.

For antivirus software, AVG is free, and you can use Panda ActiveScan or Trend Micro HouseCall from within your browser (most likely IE or Windows Mozilla with ActiveX plugin required).


IRT Cav: Yeah, it's very sad iRO and other pay sites won't work for Mozilla; just precisely payments should be done via a secure browser and not IE, I question the rational thinking of the industry. I'll write Gravity about this.


IRT Dreamer(1): Of course you can; as opposite to Internet Explorer, Mozilla is a non-intrusive, standalone browser, which you can use even if it's not the default browser (and tell it not to be so after you install it). In fact with some tweaking you could install Mozilla FireFox in a removable drive (i.e. Flash disk) and use it from there. However, keep in mind that if your brother still uses IE, your computer is exposed to all sorts of malware without even your required approval to install and run it. If your brother still questions this, tell him to find ONE expert or geek in the world saying IE is safe, or a better browser than Mozilla.

That's what happens when you use IE, and why you shouldn't. I could say "Mozilla is the same, but without malware", but it's not true ? Mozilla is a much better, rich-featured browser by itself, and as if this weren't enough, it also works much faster than IE and shows pages earlier, so you feel you have faster Internet. Once you get Moz, I can tell you how to tweak it for maximum performance.

Alright, if you have a 1.5 GHz/1500+ processor:
To make Mozilla aggressively display pages as soon as they are being loaded (so you can read posts as early as possible while the rest of the thread loads, see if a new page is what you wanted in a jiffy, etc.), especially on 256 Kbps connections or less, type in your address bar the following URL:

about:config

Then find the property nglayout.initialpaint.delay (you can type it in the filter), double click it, and set it to 100; and find the property content.notify.interval and set it to 15000. (Try ?2 or ?4 values for slower processors. Don't try ?2 values as they won't really make an improvement on faster processors.)

There's a lot more you can do in Mozilla, if you need help with the configuration, just ask. You have lots of options, non-GUI options (via about:config), and plugins (only install if you need; Mozilla follows a no-bloatware policy). If you don't have it already, Mozilla has a Hungarian language pack too. (Speaking of languages, Mozilla supports many more than IE, and it'll be able to display pages in Asian languages better than IE according to the fonts you have.)

Depends on how's it titled; if it says so, and has a very recent date, then it is. To install it simply open it or drag and drop it over FireFox.

Then it's alright; the version shouldn't go up as you haven't gotten a version upgrade but a plugin (XPI) which patches that specific part that needed fixing. So you're protected.
